After putting on tonight's SoulCycle event with Levo League Boston, I got to thinking it would be a great event to share about! In the process of grabbing a smoothie (and some healthy cookies :) ), getting a much needed shower, and preparing to get cozy and do some writing, I realized how some of my best connections have been made through workout classes! I figured I would share a few tips on how you can do the same, and I'm sharing one of my favorite workout/yoga/just any time playlists from one of the best souls I've met in the studio.
Whether you're on a college campus, in a big city, or a smaller town, studios are always looking to open their doors for classes for various groups. For example, I put on tonight's event as the leader of Levo League Boston! 10 members got to attend class totally free, and we got to meet one another afterwards. Check out your city's event calendar for any special events, or become a member of local networking communities to stay in the loop.
2. Use Social Media to Find Classes
I also happened to have the sweetest blogger reach out to me today via Instagram to invite me to her SoulCycle event this morning! While I unfortunately couldn't make it due to work, we now have plans to connect next time she's in town. Use tags on your posts, and check out tags such as #(yourcitynamehere)blogger to see what's going on and to build those connections! If you happen to find a new friend in your city, a workout class and coffee/smoothies/food is a great activity to get to know one another as well.
3. Talk to Your Instructor After Class
At the risk of sounding insincere or exaggeratory, this one has changed my life. After my first real studio yoga class, I started chatting with my yoga teacher who was a family friend that I personally didn't know too well at the time. 45 minutes later, some meaningful chats, soul sharing, (and some tears of course knowing the two of us), Kole introduced yoga to me at a time when I was in a whole lot of need for it. I see that day, that class, and that time with Kole as a time where my life could have gone in a few directions, and thanks to adding Kole to my list of people angels, I like the route it took at that time. So chat with these people, because they know all about vulnerability, expression, and connection, and I bet they'll be willing to chat and grab a cup of coffee. Check out this playlist of his that I was listening to while writing this blog! NamasTay Kole :)
I got to chat with my instructor tonight as well! After having her tell me to reach out on Instagram, I saw she also has an interest in positive psychology! I'm looking forward to hopefully building up this new connection as well.
