Spring is here, it’s Saturday, it’s Earth Day, and it’s the perfect day to show your garden some love. Or if you’re having a snuggly rainy day like it is here in Boston, J Crew is helping you bring the gardening in doors! In honor of Earth Day, stores across the country are hosting succulent planting parties that are completely free with any purchase. So drop what you’re doing, head that way (list of participating stores here), and go find yourself a new little plant buddy. Then come back and finish reading for some other plant related news to inspire your inner green thumb.
This is two weekends in a row that I’ve gotten to do a little bit of digging in the dirt, and I’m ready for more. Though I wish I had a backyard to plant in like Will does, I’m finding that you can make gardening work for you, sprawling backyard or tiny city staircase. Aside from loving flowers, home grown herbs and food, and being out in the sunshine, it always makes me happy to know that gardening is actually good for you. This article from CNN covers the benefits from stress relief to increased mood and exercise. Plus I think there’s something to having a fresh cucumber, or seasoning with rosemary from your own backyard instead of the grocery store that makes it taste that much better.
I was lucky enough to have my garden expert overseeing (and taking photos) of my planting of some Rosemary and Dill last weekend on the dock. But when we aren’t together, I’ve also found gardening is something that I (and mostly Will but I do try) look forward to doing on our own, and gives a fun activity outside of work that keeps us busy when we aren’t together. When it is one of our weekends with one another, I love seeing how his trees or plants have grown in between trips.
Pick your favorite herb (I absolutely love having a lavender plant), flower, or veggie, grab a pot or a spot in your yard, and have some happy planting today!
